'62 Roughers 40th Reunion--Newsletter Vol 1. |

Folks,
This is the first in a planned series of newsletters about our 40th reunion. Because many email services limit the size of emails, these newsletters are published as email links to the Roughers62 web page. If, for some reason, you're unable to access the link, send and request a text-only copy. It may sound trite, but if this isn't the best reunion of all times, it promises to be the largest. Thanks to email and some dedicated work by volunteers, we're tracking down classmates at an amazing rate. And for the first time, you can keep track of who's coming and who might need a bit of, ahem, coaxing. But more about this later. Having a cool (as in air-conditioned) venue is important to a successful reunion. Therefore, all events on Friday and Saturday (Sept 27/28) take place at the Muskogee Country Club. If you've never been to the MCC, don't fret: everything is totally informal, the folks there have treated us graciously for past reunions, and besides, we'll have the joint all to ourselves. We still need suggestions about Saturday daytime activities. Obviously, many of you would like to use that time to visit with classmates. But let's be honest, folks: two-plus days of reminiscing could prove fatal to spouses, so we're looking for some diversionary, er, supplemental activities. Several of you have indicated an interest in playing golf on Saturday, so howsabout a Roughers62 Golf Tournament? (First prize: a Nike drool-bib. Second prize: get the handles on your walker re-gripped.) Another possibility (not yet confirmed) is airplane tours of the Muskogee area. We looked into the ever-popular submarine races and, alas, discovered that they're closed to our age-group. So, let's totally eliminate spousicide at our reunions: talk to your significant other and let's hear some more suggestions. The huge staff here at 62 Roughers Plaza are ready and willing to do your bidding! One of the reasons this reunion will be the most successful on record is the extent to which the Internet, especially email and the Web, have simplified communications. Many of you may have discovered Classmates.com, a web site where you fork over $36 per year for the privilege of sending email to others. (What's wrong with that picture?) One of our goals is to to facilitate the direct communication among ourselves without an intermediary who hides email addresses. We also need a permanent repository for this contact information, one that will persist between reunions, and one not going to disappear without warning into dot-com heaven. Accordingly, we're happy to announce, <drum roll, please>
On the Roughers62 web site, you can:
When you visit the site, you'll see that we lack contact information for many classmates listed on the roster. We believe it's very unlikely that any single person can drop out of sight of several hundred classmates, so when you look through the roster, you'll spot someone "missing" whose whereabouts you know. Please use the Add a Name to the Roster feature to submit their contact information--even if it's just partial information, we'll track 'em down. Here's a list of just a few of the folks we've lost contact with. Can anyone supply contact info (email address at minimum) for them?:
By the way, If you have privacy concerns, remember: only email addresses are shown on the web roster; the rest of the information is held in the hermetically sealed vault at 62 Roughers Plaza. Finally, all you folks on Classmates.com: we can't maintain multiple email distribution lists, so this may be the last time we send the newsletter to Classmates.com. Please visit the web site and make certain we have your contact info (at the very least, your email address). This also applies to all you scofflaws who incorrectly registered under "Muskogee High" instead of "Central High." Best, The Reunion Committee
